Psalm 1: "Soul Planting" || Ps. Anna Couston

January 4, 2026
We’re kicking off the new year in our Psalms: A Soundtrack for the Soul series by grounding ourselves in Psalm 1 — a psalm that paints two paths, two postures, and two very different outcomes for our lives. In this message, Ps. Anna invites us to consider what it truly means to be planted — rooted deeply in God’s truth rather than swept along by the patterns of the world. Psalm 1 describes the blessed person as “a tree planted by streams of water, yielding fruit in season, whose leaf does not wither.” This is the picture of a flourishing soul. Together, we explore: • Planted vs. Drifting — What difference does it make to root our lives in God’s Word instead of the world’s rhythms? • Delighting vs. Wandering — How does delighting in Scripture contrast with the walk–stand–sit progression of sin? • Fruitfulness & Endurance — What does “fruit” look like in our lives today? And what warning does the psalm give when we choose not to be rooted? This message launches our four-week journey through the Psalms — a book filled with raw prayer, honest emotion, deep hope, and the lived experiences of God’s people. As we begin 2026, we’re inviting our church to pause, look inward and consider the spiritual, emotional and mental health of our souls before planning anything else.
