1 Corinthians 8:1-13 || Rev Michael Hands

October 18, 2026
What does 'food sacrificed to idols' have to do with Church community in the 21st century? While it speaks to specific aspects of the culture of Corinth, Rev Michael Hands leads us through what Paul might have to say to the church now in 1 Corinthians 8. Rev Michael challenges us that the mark of a mature Christian is not how much we know, but how deeply we love. Paul didn't give blanket 'yes' or 'no' answers to the Corinthians - instead he provided a framework through which to think of how our actions might impact those around us, even if they are biblically permitted. As followers of Jesus, we are called to live in a way that reflects His love in every part of our lives: - Love That Builds – Knowledge can make us proud, but love builds others up - Love for God – Our lives are a response to the God who first loved us - Love for Others – True love puts others before ourselves Our freedom in Christ is not to serve ourselves, but rather to prefer our fellow brothers and sisters, and that our lives would bear witness to the world around us so that people can encounter the love of Jesus through us.
